Environmentalpolicy

ARTiXANT is a software and AI engineering company. We do not manufacture, run a vehicle fleet, or operate industrial processes. Our environmental impact comes from the electricity behind the computing we use, the equipment we buy, and the travel we choose to make. This policy sets out what we do about each of those, who is accountable for it, and how often it is reviewed.

01

Scope and application

This policy applies to all ARTiXANT activity, wherever it is carried out: our own operations, the systems we build and run for clients, and the conduct we expect of subcontractors acting on our behalf. It applies to everyone working for or on behalf of ARTiXANT, whether at our own premises, on a client site, or remotely.

02

Where our impact actually is

An accurate assessment matters more than an ambitious one. Our material impacts, in approximate order of significance, are: electricity consumed by cloud infrastructure and AI model inference; energy used in the workspaces our people work from; business travel, predominantly within Europe; and the purchase, working life and disposal of computing equipment. We do not claim impacts we do not have, and we do not report on categories we cannot measure.

03

Legal compliance

We comply with applicable environmental legislation and regulation in the Netherlands and the European Union, including the WEEE Directive as it applies to the disposal of our electrical and electronic equipment. Compliance is the minimum standard we hold ourselves to, not the objective.

04

Energy and hosting

Where the choice of infrastructure is ours, we favour providers that publish their energy sourcing and operate on renewable electricity, and we host in European data centres. Where a client specifies their own hosting, we raise energy sourcing as a design consideration — but the decision is theirs, and we do not represent their infrastructure as our own.

05

AI and compute efficiency

Running AI models consumes energy, and running them carelessly consumes considerably more. We treat compute efficiency as an engineering requirement rather than an environmental afterthought: sizing models to the task instead of defaulting to the largest available, caching and reusing results rather than recomputing them, setting token and iteration limits on agent loops, and removing scheduled work that no longer earns its cost. A system that does the same job with fewer calls is both cheaper to run and lower in impact, and we design for that on every engagement.

06

Travel and remote working

ARTiXANT works remote-first, which removes routine commuting for most of our people. For client work we default to remote collaboration and travel only where an engagement genuinely requires presence. For necessary travel within Europe, rail is our preferred mode over short-haul flight wherever journey time makes it reasonable.

07

Equipment and waste

We buy computing equipment intended to last, repair rather than replace where repair is viable, and keep devices in service beyond the point at which they are commonly retired. Equipment leaving our use is resold, donated, or passed to a certified WEEE recycler rather than sent to general waste. We operate paperless by default.

08

Suppliers and subcontractors

We expect suppliers and subcontractors to meet the standards in this policy while working on our behalf. For significant engagements we ask suppliers about their own environmental practices. We will not present a supplier’s certification as though it were ours.

09

Responsibility

Overall responsibility for this policy rests with the founder and director of ARTiXANT, who approves it and any revision to it. Everyone working for ARTiXANT is responsible for applying it in day-to-day decisions — particularly the engineering choices in section 05, which are made continuously and by individuals rather than by committee.

10

Objectives and review

We set objectives we can evidence rather than targets we cannot measure. Our current objectives are: to maintain remote-first working; to continue selecting hosting with published renewable sourcing; to apply a compute-efficiency review to every agent system we build; and to keep computing equipment in service for at least five years where it remains fit for purpose. This policy is reviewed at least annually, and sooner if our operations, scale or legal obligations change materially.

11

Certification status

ARTiXANT does not hold ISO 14001, ISO 14064, or an equivalent certified environmental management system. This document is our corporate environmental policy and is the commitment we offer in place of certification. Where a procurement process asks whether we hold an accredited EMS, our answer is no, and this policy is what we submit alongside that answer.

12

Availability

This policy is published openly and may be printed or saved as PDF from this page for procurement and tender submissions. Questions about it, including requests for further detail during a supplier assessment, can be sent to the address below.
